Frantisek perished, along with six others, in Aircraft FL K-937 of 311 Sqn which took off from Tain at 04.05 on an anti-U-boat Patrol.

The initial report said, ‘Nothing further was heard from his aircraft which failed to return and must be presumed lost.’ However, at 1529 a message was picked up from Hofn, Iceland. L-547 reports an aircraft was attacked by an enemy aircraft and was seen to be on fire with pieces falling off as it fell into the sea in position 59.25 N. 04 15 E.
