Walker's Motor Garage.

This garage was situated in Knockbreck road on the site of the present petrol pumps. The right hand side was the store and the left hand was the workshop. It later belonged to Fox & McLean.

I had forgotten exactly how it looked. I was there when it was Munroes and the pumps were there. Us aprents used to do one night a week and every firth weekend overtime on the petrol pumps. I started in 1966.

As noted, it later became Fox & MacLean's Garage. Ted Fox was my grandfather who came to Scotland from Herefordshire as a chauffeur and married into the well-known family of Frasers who were noted stone-masons in Tain, building, amongst many other landmarks, the Sheriff Courthouse and the Royal Hotel.

My Grandfather Harry Walker was a partner with Leonard Walker (his cousin) in the early 1900s. He also went on to garages in Grantown-on-Spey, Keith and Elgin. His father William Walker was a Coachbuilder in Fyvie and moved to Tain .
