Tain & District Museum & Clan Ross Centre
Tain & District Museum & Clan Ross Centre is an independent, accredited museum and volunteer-supported charity based in the Royal Burgh of Tain, in the north of Scotland. We operate as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO No. SC055037).
We preserve, research, and share the history of Easter Ross — from mediaeval pilgrimage and Clan Ross heritage to the everyday lives of the people who shaped our communities.
Through our displays, we bring together local stories, objects, photographs, and archival material to create an accessible and welcoming space for residents, visitors, and those with Ross-shire connections around the world. As the recognised Clan Ross Centre, we also support family and clan history research, helping people explore their links to the Highlands.
This website extends that work, offering a growing selection of articles, objects, and historical resources drawn from our collections. Much of this research is carried out by volunteers and continues to expand as new material is uncovered.
We are a small independent charity, and every visit, donation, and act of support directly contributes to the care of our collections and helps keep the museum open and free to the public.
