The Trust

Tain Through Time is run by the Tain & District Museum Trust, a charitable trust founded in 1991 to hold the museum collection in trust for the public. The Trustees are all local residents. Monthly meetings are held at which decisions on the management and development of 'Tain Through Time' are made.
The primary charitable purposes of the trust are the advancement of the education of the general public and the preservation and interpretation of the museum collection. Each year specific objectives are set which contribute to the achievement of these aims and which address the initiatives required to meet both changing public expectations and new legislation and professional standards.
The trust aims to achieve high standards and has received three Scottish Museum of the Year awards and a number of other awards for different aspects of its activities. It was recognised as an Investor in People in 1999. Tain Through Time has a 4 Star Scottish Tourist Board rating as a visitor attraction.
The trust's earned income comes from admission charges to Tain Through Time, sales in the museum shop, donations and fund-raising activities. It has an agreement with Highland Council for the provision of museum services in return for an annual grant. External funding is sought from other sources as necessary for specific projects. In the year 2000 the trust established an Endowment Fund to help provide long-term security and income. Donations to this Fund are warmly welcomed and can be treated as Gift Aid donations if coming from UK taxpayers.
