Returning Rosses 2010

 

Samatha and her brother Toby Ross from Edinburgh called in to find out more about Clan Ross.Their 4 X great grandfather was David Ross, Tain, a shoemaker who married Janet Mackay in 1810. They had 10 children, 3 of whom were baptised in St Duthus Collegiate Church. The family moved to Brentford, London.

Fern Taylor and her husband Stephen from Australia joined us at the Tain Highland Games and later at the Clan Ross Ceilidh. Fern's great grandparents were Roderick and Margaret Ross from Nigg, their son was Donald John Ross and his daughter was Margaret Ross, Fern's mother.Stephen and Fern

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Elizabeth and David Ross are visiting from Australia and joined us at the Tain Highland Games. One of David's ancestors was Andrew Ross who was born in Dingwall. He and his wife, Margaret Chisholm, and their five sons sailed from Cromarty on a boat called "Asia" to arrive in Sydney, Australia in 1836.

Anton and Marga Ross first learned about their Ross heritage through the Clan Ross Association in the Netherlands. They were holidaying in Scotland and called in to see us to learn more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Samantha Nelson and her family have been visiting the north to find out more about Samantha's Ross roots around Inver.

Rob Eva, Nico and Hannah Ros have been visiting from the Netherlands. Rob's niece Diny de Wit, from South Africa, visited us with her family in 2006. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Margaret Ross Van Horne and her husband Paul called in to see us while their cruise liner was docked in nearby Invergordon

 

Permilla, Maria and Ida. Permilla and Ida Brolund from Denmark together with Permilla's sister Maria Flagerup are descended from a George Ross who went to Sweden in the early 18th century.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Betty Joan Ross and her friend Bertha were visiting from British Columbia, Canada.

 

Robert Guy and his son Robbie made the trip to Scotland to celebrate Robbie's graduation. Robert and Robbie are descended from the Rev George Ross who left Balbair in 1705 to settle in America. The Reverend's son George Ross signed the American Declaration of Independence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sirkka Elizabet and Stein Palo lives in Trondheim, Norway. Sirkka is a descendant of George Ross who went to Stockholm in the 17th century. Many of George Ross's descendants visited us last year for the Clan Ross gathering.

 

Florence, John, daughter Amanda and grandson Ross come from Lanark. Florence's father was William Kennedy Ross from Inver. William was part of the 51st Highland Division captured at St Valery in France whilst fighting the rearguard action at the start of World War Two.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jean Glady and her daughter Betheen Glady-Teshendorf called in to see us on their trip to Ross-shire to visit Kincardine where their ancestors, Thomas and Isabella Ross left from in the 1770's to start a new life in Canada.

 

 

Returning to Tain with their mother, Angela, were Maggie and Katriona who visited last summer for the Clan Ross Gathering. Stefan Palm and his family are from Sweden. Stefan is descended from George Ross from Easter Ross who settled in Stockholm between 1631 and 1660. Stefan has done considerable research into George's life and willl be sharing some of this with us in the future.

Karen Fox, an American lady residing in the Wirral, called in to find out more about her Ross ancestry. Her 4 X great grandmother Ross moved to America in the early 19th century.Karen

Ian and Dorothy Dickson from Sunderland visited us while on the trail of the grave of Ian's 3 x grandfather Duncan Ross. Duncan was the ferryman on the Nigg to Cromarty Ferry from 1840 to 1851.Dorothy and Ian

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our first Ross visitors in June were Robby, Laura and Anne Moiseev from New Jersey, USA. They are descended from William Ross who travelled to the USA before 1780.

Roy and Barbara Ross from North Carolina, USA, are not the first Rosses to return this year but the first to submit to our photographic activities. They have been enjoying a sightseeing trip to Scotland whilst getting in a few games of golf on our beautiful golf courses.Barbara and Roy
