Tanged Flint Projectile point

This flint point was found on Tain beach on the 27th April, 1998. It is the only known example found in Scotland of a Scandinavian Neolithic class B tanged point and suggests that contact existed between Scotland and Scandinavia 5-6000 years ago. On one side, the flint is shaped coming to a point in the middle as shown in the photograph. The other side is flat. At the left hand end is the tange shaped to fit into some kind of handle and at the right hand end the point is grooved or barbed.

Unfortunately from Tain museum's point of view, the flint point was claimed as Treasure Trove and awarded to the NMS in Edinburgh, despite being found locally and by a local person.
