Gordon Maitland and "Babe" Sheriff

Gordon Maitland (of the Maitland firm of architects) is seen here with Marian Mackenzie at the junction of Quarry Road and Manse Street (before Craighill Terrace was built). Ms Mackenzie was known as "Babe" Sheriff because she was the daughter of Sheriff Mackenzie. She was a great fundraiser for good causes, especially during the war when she ran dances in aid of funds for sending parcels to POWs.
