Easter Ross Cycling Club

This was taken at the start of the Easter Ross Cycling Club's 12 mile race in 1889. The participants are wearing caps with club badges. The picture was taken at the rear of Urquhart's shoe shop in Tain High Street, and A. Urquhart won third prize.
Picture added on 23 January 2004.

A member of our family - Margaret Crawford, married an Urquhart. I wonder if this may be of their shop. I will update this message again.

Unfortunately, my first message was incorrect - in actual fact I think A. Urquhart is Andrew Urquhart who married Barbara Gallie, sister to James Ross McLean Gallie who married Barbara Walker, our great-grandfather George Ross' niece (mother is Annie Ross born 1832). George Ross migrated to Australia in 1867.

The above picture of Easter Ross Cycling Club was taken at the back of London House, accessible from Ivy Lane off St. Duthus Street. The door on the right of the picture, with the steps leading up to it, now has a porch in front of it.
