Mr & Mrs Munro, Fendom

The couple are photographed in their living room surrounded by family photos and mementoes. Mr Munro was known as "Gaelic Jock" Our information states that Mrs Munro is wearing the Military Cross, presumably won by a son killed in WW1. Any further information about this would be most welcome.

Does anyone know exactly where the Munros lived on the Fendom?

The Military Cross looks more like the silver cross awarded by the Canadians to the mothers and wives of soldiers killed in action, so I looked in the war graves and there is a William Munro son of John and Catherine Munro of Broomhill, Fendom, Tain. killed on the 6/6/1916 and is commemerated on Ypres [ Menin Gate ] Memorial. May not be the right family but it might be helpful.

Thanks, William, that helps. The Munros of Broomhill, Balcherry, Fendom, did have a son William who was 8 at the time of the 1901 census, so he would have been just 17 when he was killed.

There is a Walter Munro, Canadians, on the Fearn Memorial, related to Willie Munro, Pitkerrie. The William Munro on the Tain Memorial is listed as a corporal while all Canadian records show this William Munro as a private, seems he was blown up when the trench he was in had mines detonated underneath it with many casualties on 6th June 1916,body not recovered.
